How it works

Rootworth is the online herbal arm of a clinical practice that has been operating since 2005. It is not a replacement for in-person care — it extends the practice to two specific situations.

Who this is for

  • Patients who cannot come into the office — distance, schedule, geography — who want access to classically-prescribed herbal medicine from the same practitioner who runs the clinic.
  • Patients already in a course of treatment who are doing well and need a re-exam or their next course of herbs, without driving in for an in-person visit.

That is the scope. If your situation is one of these two, this is where you start.

Step 01

No appointment. Just the questionnaire.

There is no live, timed appointment to attend. The questionnaire is the entry point.

When you begin your intake, you choose one of two paths:

  • Initial exam — your first time being read by Michael. The full diagnostic intake.
  • Re-exam — you are already in a course of treatment. Michael reads where the pattern is now and adjusts.

Along with the questionnaire, you attach a tongue photo and any areas of concern — recent labs, images, symptom notes, anything that helps the reading. More detail means a more precise pattern.

The review begins when your intake is submitted — not at any scheduled time.

The reading begins with what you bring.

Step 02

The plan is a map, not a prescription.

What Michael returns is not a formula and a set of instructions. It is a plan.

The plan names where your body is — the pattern as Michael reads it now. It also names the expected course of treatment: what the formula is intended to do, in what sequence, and approximately how long each phase should take.

A living roadmap. Not a fixed prescription.

The body changes as it heals — pathogens clear, deficiencies fill, layers of a pattern resolve in sequence. At each re-exam, Michael reads where the body is now and revises the formula to meet it there. The plan is adjusted as the body responds.

Step 03

What ships with the initial exam.

With the initial exam, the first custom formula ships. Your formula is a custom preparation — not a stock blend, not a category formula. Michael prepares it based on the specific pattern your intake reveals.

Custom formulas are always prepared by us and shipped directly to you.

When Michael includes functional medicine supplements in your plan, they are fulfilled through Fullscript — a professional dispensary platform for licensed practitioners. Free standard shipping on orders of $50 or more. Auto-refill available.

How the practice stays with you

The practice stays in the room with you.

All communication flows through the HIPAA-compliant messaging channel in your clinic account — accessible between appointments. Clarifying questions, response notes as you take the herbs, observations between re-exams. It all lives alongside your chart.

For most patients in an active treatment phase, re-exams happen on a one-to-two-week cycle — short enough to catch what is moving, spaced enough to let the formula work.

When the formula is holding and the body is stable, re-exams move to a monthly check-in: herbs adjusted if the pattern has shifted, refilled if it has not.

The practice stays with you, at a pace that matches where the body is.

The practice continues between visits — through the portal, through the formula, through the plan.
